My name is Joyce, a 66-year-old female born and raised in the northern region of Kenya to a nomadic family. Nomadic pastoral communities that fully depend on livestock keep migrating in search of water and pasture for human and livestock consumption. I spent my childhood herding my family’s livestock and therefore never had a chance to obtain formal education that comes with diversified employable skills. I got initiated into young adulthood at the end of my teenage years and shortly after got married off to a suitor chosen by my family. The rest of my life has been spent raising my children, taking care of my husband, and rearing our livestock. Due to climate change-induced droughts, our economic situation has significantly changed for the worse. We recently experienced a severe drought that swept away all our livestock leading to tough economic times. I now relying on very scarce manual jobs in the community in order to put food on the table. I am therefore kindly appealing for support from well-wishers in form of payment for insurance premiums for the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), capacity building on climate-smart agriculture, alternative livelihood ventures, and or livestock restocking. This support will enable my family and I access much-needed healthcare services, improved food security and nutrition,hence improve the quality of my life.
