Hello, my name is Rembesuan. I am a 72-year-old woman from northern Kenya. My family belongs to a nomadic pastoral community that migrates in search of water and pasture for livestock and human consumption. As a child, I spent my days herding our family's livestock and did not have the opportunity to receive formal education.
When I reached my teenage years, I underwent a traditional initiation into adulthood and was married off to a suitor chosen by my family. Since then, my life has been dedicated to raising my children, caring for my husband, and tending to our livestock.
Livestock is our main source of livelihood, but due to droughts caused by climate change, our economic situation has worsened. Recently, a severe drought wiped out all of our livestock, leaving my family in a difficult financial situation. To make ends meet, I rely on manual labor jobs in the community to provide food for my family.
I am therefore requesting support from well-wishers to help improve our situation. Specifically, I would appreciate assistance with climate-smart agriculture training, livestock restocking, and insurance premiums for the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). This support would enable me to provide better food security and nutrition for my family, as well as access much-needed healthcare. Thank you for your consideration.
