My name is Napeyok Ngenep.
I am a 68-year-old woman from northern Kenya. I come from a nomadic family that migrates in search of water and pasture for our livestock. Unfortunately, due to climate change-induced droughts, our economic situation has significantly worsened. We recently experienced a severe drought that wiped out all our livestock, leading to tough economic times.
As a child, I spent my days herding our family's livestock and never had the opportunity to obtain a formal education. At the end of my teenage years, I became a young adult and was married to a suitor chosen by my family. Since then, I have spent my life raising my children, taking care of my husband, and rearing our livestock.
Our community and family rely heavily on our livestock as a primary source of livelihood. However, due to my advanced age, I am unable to rely on manual labor, which makes my life miserable. Therefore, I am kindly appealing to well-wishers for support in the form of capacity building on climate-smart agriculture, livestock restocking, and insurance premiums for basic health insurance. This support will enable my family and me to access improved food security and nutrition, much-needed healthcare, and ultimately improve the quality of my life.
