Hi there, my name is Nalayon.
I was born and raised in the northern region of Kenya, in a nomadic family. Our community migrates in search of water and pasture for our livestock due to the arid and semi-arid conditions we live in. As a child, I spent most of my time herding our family's livestock, which meant I never had the chance to receive formal education or acquire other employable skills.
After I became a young adult, I got married to a man selected by my family. Since then, I have devoted my life to taking care of my husband, raising our children, and rearing our livestock. In our community, we rely heavily on livestock as our main source of income. However, due to climate change-induced droughts, our economic situation has significantly worsened. Recently, we experienced a severe drought that swept away all our livestock, leading to tough economic times. Now, I rely on scarce manual jobs in the community to provide for my family.
I am seeking support from well-wishers to help me and my family get back on our feet. Specifically, I am looking for support in the form of capacity building on climate-smart agriculture, livestock restocking, and insurance premiums for the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). This support will enable my family to access improved food security and nutrition, much-needed healthcare, and hence improve our quality of life.
